We saw job growth across the board during the third quarter of 2011.

CheckPoint HR, the trusted ally in web-based Human Resources management for small to mid-sized companies, today reports that employment for small to medium sized businesses in the Tri-State area saw an increase of 5.2% annualized for the third quarter of 2011. CheckPoint HR’s statistical employment report is a result of the data from businesses predominantly in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania and is made up of private companies in fields such as financial services, retail and not-for-profit sectors.

According to CheckPoint HR’s data, there was an increase in employment during the months of July, August and September. At the start of the second quarter in April, CheckPoint HR saw an increase in on-boarding activities and it seems as though those hires began receiving payroll during the third quarter timeframe. In April, CheckPoint HR reported that it had noticed an influx of growth related activities including but not limited to job placements, background checks, W-4 and I-9 processing.

The growth seen in the third quarter this year compares to a growth rate (annualized) of 4.6% in 2010. CheckPoint HR’s report is consistent with the Labor Department’s outlook for the month of September, which cited the U.S. economy gained more jobs in September than most economists had expected, adding 103,000 jobs in the month.

“We saw job growth across the board during the third quarter of 2011,” said Neil Friedman, CFO, CheckPoint HR. “One area in particular that seems to have started recovering is in the non-profit sector. In addition to the spike in employment for some of our non-profit clients, we also see an uptick from retailers, likely preparing for the pending holiday season.”

According to a recent survey from Careerbuilder, many employers are anticipating a moderate slowdown in hiring for the fourth quarter. The survey cites 21% of hiring managers reported that they plan to hire full-time, permanent employees in Q4, down from Q3, but on par with 2010.
