CloudFTP marries the many advantages of traditional USB media with the convenience of modern consumer electronics like the iPad and the future of Cloud computing and storage

Sanho Corporation today announced that it has been named an International CES Innovations 2012 Design and Engineering Awards Honoree for CloudFTP. Products entered in this prestigious program are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and members of the media to honor outstanding design and engineering in cutting edge consumer electronics products across 32 product categories.

CloudFTP is a pocket size adapter that can turn any USB storage device into a wireless file server, sharing files with WiFi-enabled devices (e.g. iPad, iPhone, computer etc.). It can also automatically connect to the Internet to backup and synchronize USB data with popular online Cloud storage services like iCloud, Dropbox and box.net.

USB mass storage devices (USB hard drives, flash drives, card readers, digital cameras etc.) are one of most commonly used digital storage media. Yet it is almost impossible to connect a USB storage device to recent inventions like the iPad, iPhone or the Cloud without much hassle and going through a computer.

CloudFTP provides a single, affordable, plug-n-play solution that bridges USB storage and the wireless Cloud. Once a USB storage device is plugged into CloudFTP, the data will instantly be accessible wirelessly to the Cloud, iPad, iPhone and other WiFi-enabled devices.

Powered by a low power consumption, high performance ARM Cortex A8 microprocessor and a 2,600mAh lithium ion rechargeable battery, CloudFTP is capable of powering any USB mass storage compliant device, sharing the data over a secure wireless IEEE 802.11b/g/n WiFi network.

CloudFTP supports two different WiFi modes (ad-hoc and infrastructure). By default, CloudFTP creates its own (ad-hoc) wireless WiFi network to share and stream media with up to three WiFi-enabled device (e.g. iPad, iPhone, computer) at the same time.

CloudFTP can also join an existing (infrastructure) WiFi network to share files with other devices connected to the same network. Under this mode, CloudFTP will also automatically connect to the Internet to backup and synchronize data with popular online Cloud storage services like iCloud, Dropbox, box.net.

"Almost everyone own some form of USB storage device," says Daniel Chin, President of Sanho Corporation and Inventor of CloudFTP. "As Cloud storage becomes more popular in the future, there is still an important place for local USB storage which is relatively inexpensive, faster and does not require the Internet to access data," he adds. "CloudFTP marries the many advantages of traditional USB media with the convenience of modern consumer electronics like the iPad and the future of Cloud computing and storage," he continues. "We are proud to be recognized by CEA for what we truly believe is going to be a really useful product," he concluded.

The prestigious Innovations Design and Engineering Awards are sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, the producer of the International CES, the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow, and have been recognizing achievements in product design and engineering since 1976. The Best of Innovations honor is awarded to the products with the highest judges’ scores and will be featured in the Innovations Design and Engineering Showcase at the 2012 International CES. Sanho Corporation's CloudFTP will be displayed at the 2012 International CES, which runs January 10-13, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Honorees will also be displayed at CES Unveiled: the Official Press Event of the International CES from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, January 8 in the Venetian Ballroom of the Venetian.

The Innovations entries are judged based on the following criteria:

  • Engineering qualities, based on technical specs and materials used
  • Aesthetic and design qualities
  • The product's intended use/function and user value
  • Unique/novel features that consumer would find attractive
  • How the design and innovation of the product compares to other products in the marketplace

Products chosen as an Innovations honoree reflect innovative design and engineering of the entries. Examples may include the first time various technologies are combined in a single product or dramatic enhancements to previous product designs.

Innovations 2012 Design and Engineering honoree products are featured on http://www.CESweb.org/Innovations, which lists product categories, as well as each product name, manufacturer information, designer, description, photo and URL.
