New Platform Uses Social Media to Disseminate Learning

Coldwell Banker’s collaborative new portal appeals to the social being in all of us for a more natural and effective way to learn.

Aptara, a digital learning and performance solutions provider at the forefront of eLearning, and Coldwell Banker Real Estate LLC, Aptara’s customer, both received prestigious Learning In Practice Awards from Chief Learning Officer (CLO) magazine for the trend-setting social learning and video portal designed and built by Aptara for Coldwell Banker. Aptara was awarded the Silver for Excellence in Social Learning and David Birnbaum, Coldwell Banker’s Vice President of Learning, won a Bronze for Excellence in Innovation.

Launched from desktops, laptops, iPads or smart phones, the portal is a virtual office that creates a collaborative environment in an interactive world. Recognizing that conventional learning and development tactics, on their own, are not enough anymore, the Coldwell Banker University (CBU) Social Learning Portal was designed to allow professionals to learn as they work and connect instantaneously with mentors, peers and experts for answers and insight from around the globe. It is a one-stop-shop for administering enterprise-level training that capitalizes on the power of social media to advance learning and development.

“Social media is revolutionizing our traditional approach to learning,” said Dev Ganesan, President and CEO of Aptara. “By aggregating employee perspectives and fostering shared ideas and experiences, Coldwell Banker’s collaborative new portal appeals to the social being in all of us for a more natural and effective way to learn.”

Aside from incorporating blogs, best-practice discussion forums, social networks, social bookmarks, video streaming, video commenting, and video search, a single sign-on (SSO) allows users to access all of Coldwell Banker’s learning and development resources on-demand.

“David’s award is a testament to what he and his team have done to provide outstanding course work and an unparalleled distribution system that allows Coldwell Banker sales professionals the opportunity to successfully maintain and grow their businesses,” said Budge Huskey, president and chief operating officer for Coldwell Banker Real Estate LLC.
