Dr John Vance will be discussing the field of modern dentistry at the Louisiana State University Laboratory School on November 11, 2011. The Lab School will be having its 4th annual Career Fair on this day with over 850 students passing through the auditorium in grades 5-12. There will be over sixty volunteers discussing their careers with the students.
This will be Dr John Vance’s second year to speak with students at the LSU Lab School. Dr Vance hopes to encourage interest in the field of dentistry and will be discussing the different fields of dentistry as well as the path he followed to his career.
Dr Vance will have many items on display to spark questions including dentures and partial dentures, athletic mouth guards, crowns, bridges and dental implants. Dr Vance will also have examples of technology including sample digital xrays. Dr Vance will discuss his career path as well which began with a degree in mechanical engineering and employment at Riverbend Nuclear Power Station in St Francisville, LA. After deciding to change careers, Dr Vance returned to Louisiana State University for his dental prerequisites and entered the LSU School of Dentistry in 1996. In 1998 Dr Vance was awarded a United States Air Force Scholarship and in 2000 Dr Vance graduated and entered the Air Force. He completed an advanced dentistry residency and was stationed at Barksdale AFB, Louisiana and Eielson AFB, Alaska. He left the Air Force in 2007 as a Major and returned to Baton Rouge to enter private practice.
