DENVER, CO (PRWEB) November 10, 2011
Sexton Lawton Architecture, a Denver-based full service architecture and design firm, today announced the firm has recently won five awards for outstanding design.
2011 Denver AIA Merit Award for Built Architecture - Cherry Creek Medical Building
The American Institute of Architects (AIA), Denver chapter, recognized its 2011 architectural design, honor and president’s awards recipients during a ceremony on Sept. 23, 2011, at the Denver Botanic Gardens.
The project involved the renovation of a 2 ½-story brick office building built in the 1980s in the Cherry Creek North shopping district. The renovation converted the structure into a transparent, contemporary beacon that engages pedestrians and echoes the clinical nature of the medical tenants within. Features include a custom “glass fin” window system in both transparent and translucent finishes and a new full-height glass tower that serves as the main entrance to the penthouse during the day and a glowing lantern at night.
An excerpt from The Denver Post stated: “Good design looks even better when you know it came about during tough times. When the economy gets shaky, so do people looking to build things.
That makes all of the projects recognized for merit this year by the Denver AIA even a little more special. Hats off to the architects and builders who kept their clients committed to high standards when they had to be getting nervous about costs… the designers were able to see tremendous possibilities in existing, ordinary structures and turn them into interesting attractions and good neighbors.”
2011 Colorado AIA Honor Award - Cherry Creek Medical Building
The American Institute of Architects Colorado Recognized 2011 Achievements in Architecture in a gala ceremony at Keystone Resorts October 14, 2011. The Honor Award is the highest award given by the Colorado AIA.
2011 Colorado AIA Merit Award - Sustainable Stuart
The Sustainable Stuart project is a new urban-infill residential duplex that incorporates an open floor plan, indoor/outdoor living spaces and sustainable design strategies. The exterior massing and materiality of the building were designed as a contemporary response to the character of the older Denver neighborhood it sits within. Features include a 5.8 Kw photovoltaic array, super-insulated building envelope and innovative finishes, such as mosaic tiles made from recycled wine corks. The project achieved LEED Gold certification.
2011 Builder’s Choice Award - Sustainable Stuart
The Sustainable Stuart project won one of the only two Merit Awards given in the Sustainable Projects category. The Builder’s Choice Awards, bestowed by Builder Magazine, is the housing industry’s oldest, largest, and most prestigious design awards program. For more than 30 years, the awards program has enlisted top builders and residential architects as jurors for their most prestigious annual competition. The Builder’s Choice Design and Planning Awards serve as a leading barometer of the latest trends and influences in architecture, design, and community planning across the nation.
