"We are excited that our low-cost Red Rabbitt refurbished computers will enable Connect to Compete participants to get online,” said Jill Vaské, Executive Vice President of Redemtech.

Redemtech, a global leader in IT asset disposition, has joined the Connect to Compete initiative, created by Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski, to improve digital literacy in underserved communities throughout the United States. Redemtech is the chosen provider of low-cost, quality refurbished computers, augmenting broadband access, training and technical assistance from other Connect to Compete partners.

“We are excited that our low-cost Red Rabbitt refurbished computers will enable Connect to Compete participants to get online,” said Jill Vaské, Executive Vice President of Redemtech. “This is an opportunity for American corporations to securely distribute surplus computers through Redemtech to American citizens without compromising their financial returns.”

As North America’s largest Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher (MAR), Redemtech will offer quality, business-grade desktop and laptop name-brand refurbished computers under the Red Rabbitt brand. They will feature Windows 7® operating system and Microsoft Office for as low as $150 to eligible participants. Comparably equipped refurbished computers have a retail value of more than $400. Whether a Dell, HP or other name brand, Connect to Compete Red Rabbitt refurbished computers come with:

  • Microsoft Authorized Refurbished computer with minimum Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB RAM and 80 GB hard drive, DVD player, wireless Internet card and Ethernet card
  • Windows 7 Professional or Windows XP Professional operating system
  • Microsoft Office Professional 2007 productivity suite
  • Monitor, new keyboard and mouse (for desktops)
  • Free shipping and 90-day limited exchange warranty
  • Free end-user technical support for 90 days and online software support through Microsoft

All refurbished computers meet the exacting standards of Redemtech’s Red Rabbitt brand for quality and value. Each system is tested and configured to manufacturer specifications and professionally packaged for a “like-new” experience out of the box (see brief video).

Connecting Corporate, Government Supply to Meet Needs
With more than a decade of experience in refurbishing and redeploying large volumes of corporate and government computers, Redemtech is uniquely qualified to ensure an abundant, long-term supply of affordable computers for Connect to Compete. Every year, U.S. businesses replace approximately 40 million computers. Most have years of useful life remaining, but are stowed away in warehouses and closets or prematurely disposed.

“For large businesses and government agencies, directing surplus computers to Connect to Compete will be a strategic alternative to brokered wholesale that delivers superior value while bolstering sustainability and social responsibility,” said Vaské. “This program provides large enterprises the opportunity to re-channel used equipment to support a great cause, without financial risk, while ensuring a long, productive and life-altering secondary use.”

Redemtech will directly support the Connect to Compete initiative by contributing a portion of its proceeds from the resale of client surplus. Connect to Compete supporters can also make a “gift in kind” by donating surplus equipment to the program through Redemtech’s Serious Good® initiative, which streamlines the donation process for businesses, government agencies and other organizations. When corporations fund the refurbishment of donated PCs, they can realize a Giving ROI of $5 - $7 for every dollar invested, as documented in the Redemtech white paper “Giving: The Most Strategic IT Asset Disposition.” A leading analyst firm wrote last year that “Redemtech Re-writes the Rules on IT Equipment Donation” with Serious Good.

“Our support for Connect to Compete reflects our deep commitment to transforming surplus IT into a greater good,” said Robert Houghton, Redemtech President. “We are excited to join with the FCC in this important initiative to help the rest of America get connected, increase digital literacy and improve lives.”

Protecting the Environment with Free Takeback
Ensuring proper recycling when equipment reaches the end of its useful life, Redemtech will provide free takeback service for Connect to Compete participants. Each computer will be labeled with a “Recycle Me Free” decal that includes a link to the Redemtech website where users simply complete an online form to ensure eligibility. Equipment is picked up and recycled for free. As the first national e-Stewards® Certified Recycler, Redemtech recycles all computers to the highest standards for environmental protection and global responsibility, which means no export of e-waste to developing nations, no e-waste toxins sent to landfills or incinerators, and no use of prison labor.
