Greenwich, CT (PRWEB) November 15, 2011
VenCorps today announced the winners of its inaugural PitchU competition through the Kauffman Foundation’s iStart.org.
The three winners are:
Rumgr (rumgr.com) a product to sell stuff locally, created at the first-ever Las Vegas Startup Weekend
Accelsor (accelsor.com) a dynamic real-time content creation and design suite
GZ Points (gzpoints.com) rewards students who perform well in school with discounts to local and national businesses in their communities
“Pitch U provided an opportunity for early-stage entrepreneurs to pitch their ideas via YouTube to the community and a panel of judges,” said VenCorps President Bill Starr. “We are pleased to support these early-stage startups and provide a check for $5,000 to help them develop their ideas and grow their businesses.”
The community and judges decided the three winners who presented the best elevator pitches out of nearly 100 international entrants. Successful elevator pitches explained the business concept in two minutes or less and made a compelling case for how the startups would create value and profit.
Based on the success of this inaugural competition, VenCorps will continue to support early-stage entrepreneurs and their ideas by awarding $5,000 quarterly to four promising start-ups in 2012.
The Kauffman Foundation’s iStart.org is the leading online community designed for colleges, universities and nonprofits that host business plan competitions.
