New Online Exchange for Small Businesses is Region’s First

Online Insurance Corporation (OIC) today announced that the company has completed the launch of Blue KC Exchange for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City, marking the region’s first online health insurance exchange.

The new Exchange – http://www.BlueKCExchange.com – is designed specifically for small businesses as a way to help them better predict and control healthcare expenses. The Exchange allows business owners to specify a defined contribution amount for small group coverage as well as determine coverage options for their employees. In addition, the Exchange allows small business employees to decide how to spend their funds and gives them the ability to select the healthcare plan that best meets their individual and/or family’s needs.

“OIC was able to help us design, build, and launch this Exchange in just a little over 90 days. It was remarkable to see both the Blue KC I.T. and OIC teams accomplish so much in such a short period of time,” said Ron Rowe, senior director of individual and small group markets at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City. “In addition, OIC’s close relationships with leading health insurance brokers and carriers across the country proved essential in developing an innovative, yet easy-to-use interface to meet the needs of brokers and our members.”

“Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City is well known as one of the most innovative carriers in the country and we are very pleased to be a part of this groundbreaking project,” said Keith Schraad, president and CEO of OIC. “This first phase merely scratches the surface of what the Blue KC team has in store for its members going forward, and we are looking forward to partnering with the company to help launch more exciting developments in the future.”
