The town of Santa Claus will welcome the 2011 Capitol Christmas Tree on Monday, November 21, at 3:30 pm CST in the Kringle Place Shopping Center.

"Santa Claus, Indiana, was the first stop we selected to be on this year's tour," says Maria Benech, 2011 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree coordinator.

The town of Santa Claus will welcome the Capitol Christmas Tree on Monday, November 21, at 3:30 pm CST in the Kringle Place Shopping Center.

A welcoming ceremony will kick off the holiday season in Santa Claus, Indiana. This ceremony will include children’s activities such as Christmas tree decorating and coloring pages. The Santa Claus Christmas Store will serve hot chocolate to guests. The public is invited to attend.

"Santa Claus, Indiana, was the first stop we selected to be on this year's tour," says Maria Benech, 2011 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree coordinator. "We couldn't pass up the opportunity to stop in a town named Santa Claus and moved our entire route north specifically to fit in Santa Claus."

The tree will be traveling in a plywood box on a double-flatbed truck. The box will have eight feet of see-through acrylic so guests can see and smell the 65-foot tree.

The 2011 Capitol Christmas Tree will stop in Santa Claus, Indiana, during its cross-country journey from California to Washington, D.C. The tree’s tour began on November 8 and will travel through California and the rest of the national tour in 20 days. The tree will reach its final destination, Washington, D.C., on Monday, November 28.

America’s Christmas Hometown: Santa Claus, Indiana, will host a celebration of family fun on the first three weekends of December. Events include a traditional Christmas Dinner with Santa; “Santa Claus Land of Lights,” a 1.2-mile driving journey through Lake Rudolph Campground & RV Resort; Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire and much more.
