Veteran film and television actors and actresses will perform a live theatrical reading of the classic pulp western, "King of the Gunmen" by L. Ron Hubbard, complete with gunshots, hoof beats, and other authentic sounds on Saturday night, November 12th at the Golden Age Theater.
The show starts at 7:30 pm and will be performed at the Golden Age Theater, located one block west of Grauman’s Chinese Theater on Hollywood Blvd. (7051 Hollywood Blvd. at Sycamore). Additional period entertainment, refreshments, and dessert are also provided. Parking is free.
In Hubbard’s story, Kit Gordon, also known as “Suicide,” “Smoke” or “Sudden Death,” a gunfighter who pairs with a gunman to make one of the West’s most unlikely duos. Caught between the feuding sheepherders and cattle ranchers, Kit must choose to either run for his life or reveal that he’s a wanted fugitive and square off with one of the most vicious cutthroats in the region. The story provides a fictionalized account of the cattlemen vs. sheepherder wars in Arizona during the late 1800s.
"King of the Gunmen" was originally published in the July 1938 issue of "Western Yarns." The story is included in an 80-novel print and audio book series, Stories from the Golden Age being published in serial form by Galaxy Press and available by major booksellers. L. Ron Hubbard wrote the adventures, mystery, science fiction, fantasy and western stories during the 1930s and ‘40s.
The live weekly theatrical readings have received CBS Radio’s highest four-star rating.
