Youth of Community of Grace Gather Food for the Needy

This is reflective of the heart of our church.

The iamsecond youth group from Community of Grace Lutheran Church in Elkhorn, NE are hosting a Turkey Drive. The youth are collecting turkeys, hams and non-perishable food items for the Western Douglas County Chamber of Commerce Holiday Food Basket program through December 11, 2011.

The iamsecond group is a group of youth from 5th graders through 8th graders who want to put others first in their lives before themselves. At their meeting on November 3rd the youth decided they wanted to follow Community of Grace's mission of “Healing for the Past and Hope for the Future”.

The pastor of Community of Grace, Brad Hoefs, said, "The youth choosing to do this as a special project is very reflective of the heart of our church. Reaching out to those how need hope and healing is our main focus. It's my prayer that the kids collect even more turkeys than what are needed!"

The youth decided that by collecting food to give people who may not have enough food that this will be giving the recipients of the food hope for a joyous holiday season.

The group hopes to collect enough turkeys and hams so that each family that needs a holiday meal will have one. The food that is donated may be brought to the church office during office hours, given to the member of iamsecond or placed in the display at the church located at 3434 n 204th St in Elkhorn, NE.

According to the Western Douglas County Chamber of Commerce website, http://www.wdccc.org, they are asking for food donations to feed 450 families this Christmas. The Western Douglas County Chamber of Commerce has a 30 year tradition of providing food baskets that include a complete holiday meal to families that are in need in the western Douglas County communities.

The iamsecond group meets the first Thursday of each month at Community of Grace Lutheran Church. http://www.communityofgrace.net.
