Mesa, AZ (PRWEB) November 16, 2011
The Foundation for Exceptional Kids will be hosting their second annual “Exceptional Beer and Wine Tasting" event on November 18th at the Terrace Green Golf Course in Mesa, AZ from 6-10 pm. The event proceeds benefit the Foundation’s Camp Runamuk, an award-winning, three night, four day family camp that takes children with special needs and their families to Prescott. Camp allows families to experience horseback riding, camp fires, zip lines, climbing walls and receive information on therapy services such as the use of therapy dogs. Camp programs are designed by professional therapists with Master’s degrees in Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy, who volunteer their expertise for the entire weekend running groups and activities. In addition, direct care staff volunteer their time to be “Camp Pals” who work directly with campers to enable them to participate successfully in each activity.
Over the past few years, funding for children with disabilities in Arizona has been cut by 15%, and camp costs continue to increase. The Foundation is actively seeking sponsorship to help sustain the positive and supportive opportunities that this camp offers. For many families, Camp Runamuk is the only vacation they have with activities and specialists to ensure the health and happiness of their child with special needs.
The Foundation for Exceptional Kids is located in Mesa AZ off of Alma School and the US 60. It supports in-home and clinic-based services for children with developmental disabilities. Presently, the Foundation serves over 300 hundred families, providing them with community supports and education.
