Burlington, NC (PRWEB) November 12, 2011
National Agents Alliance will host its “Be Your Own Rock Star” National Convention Version 2.0 at the Raleigh Convention Center in Raleigh, N.C. on Jan. 26-29, President and Chief Executive Officer Andy Albright announced today.
Bestselling author Jon Gordon will be the keynote speaker, and N.C. State athletic director Debbie Yow, N.C. Insurance Commissioner Wayne Godwin, motivational speaker Tim Goad and other surprise guests will appear at the event.
“We got such great feedback on our last national event in Raleigh and at our Fall Tour events that we decided to bring back the ‘Be Your Own Rock Star’ theme one more time,” Andy Albright said. “This will be the ‘retirement tour’ for the theme and we feel like it will be our best event yet. You can be sure that there will be a big stage, bright lights and big stars coming to our event.”
The three-day event will serve as the finale to a series of events that kicked off in July. The 2012 event will serve as a “retirement” of the “Be Your Own Rock Star” theme, which branded two national events and four “Fall Tour” events in Las Vegas, Nev.; Dallas, Texas; Atlanta, Ga. and Baltimore, Md.
More than 2,500 people attended the July event in Raleigh, where “Pursuit of Happyness” inspiration Chris Gardner was the keynote speaker. National Agents Alliance auctioned off a signed guitar named “Miss Liberty” for charity, raising more than $30,000.
“We’ve put together an all-star lineup of speakers and it’s going to be an electric setting,” Andy Albright said. “We’re a couple of months away, but I can’t wait to get to the Raleigh Convention Center.”
Gordon’s best-selling books and talks have inspired thousands of readers and audiences around the world. His principles have been implemented by several NFL, NBA and NCAA coaches and teams. He has spoken and coached Fortune 500 companies, hospitals and non-profits. His books, The Energy Bus, The No Complaining Rule, Training Camp, The Shark and The Goldfish, Soup and The Seed, have appeared on The Wall Street Journal bestseller list. His lessons have been featured on The Today Show, CNN, Fox and Friends and in numerous magazines and newspapers around the world. He has worked extensively with the Atlanta Falcons, Campbell Soup, Wells Fargo, State Farm and Bayer.
Yow, who returned to N.C. State on June 25, 2010 after serving as the athletic director at the University of Maryland for 16 years, is well-known to fans of the Wolfpack nation. Her sister, Debbie Yow, who died after a long, public battle with cancer in 2009, led the N.C. State women’s basketball program for 34 years.
Since arriving at N.C. State, Yow has significantly increased the overall athletics department’s budget to $56.6 million for operations and scholarships. She oversees approximately 185 full-time staff and 525 student-athletes.
Yow has served as president of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and the national Division I-A Athletic Directors Association. She is a member of the National Football Foundation board of directors, as well as the USA Football board of directors and has served on the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Academic Enhancement Committee, as well as having represented the ACC on the NCAA Management Council.
Both Street and Smith's Sports Business Journal and the Chronicle of Higher Education have cited Yow as being one of the 20 most influential people in college athletics. She was selected to serve on the President’s U.S. Department of Education’s Commission on Opportunities in Athletics to review the status of Federal Title IX regulations.
