As ambassadors for the United States, Meghan and I both want to be a beacon of hope and a measure of inspiration for everyone that comes across our story. We know this dream wedding will set the tone for an amazing marriage.
Duck, North Carolina (PRWEB) November 11, 2011
The Sanderling Resort & Spa, OBXbrides.com and Operation Homefront are pleased to announce Air Force 2nd Lt. John Avrett and fiancé Meghan Kinney winners of the highly-anticipated “Salute to Love” contest. Launched on Independence Day 2011, Salute to Love aims to honor a deserving military couple with the ultimate beach wedding experience. With more than 102,000 total votes for the top 10 couples, the future Mr. and Mrs. John Avrett walked away with the most support and will be married April 14, 2012.
Valued at $120,000, the ultimate dream wedding will be a weekend full of wedding-related events with an official ceremony April 14, 2012 for up to 75 people at The Sanderling, located on the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina. In addition, the three- day event includes a bachelor/bachelorette outing, rehearsal dinner and farewell brunch as well as the delectable cake and lush flowers, multiple photography sessions and officiant - everything needed for the perfect wedding weekend provided by OBXBrides.com wedding professionals. A wedding dress has also been graciously donated by Yes To The Dress.
John submitted a beautifully-written entry to Salute to Love describing when he and Meghan first met in a coffee shop in downtown Colorado Springs, Colo. He detailed the flood of emotions when he first laid eyes on Meghan and how quickly they fell in love.
On October 7, 2010, Meghan was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a bone cancer, after doctors found a tumor in her knee. Nine months of appointments, week-long hospital stays, major surgery and more than 100 nights together in the hospital, John and Meghan’s love prevailed. Meghan finished chemotherapy treatment July 14, 2011 and John proposed August 20, 2011.
“After 18 months together and battling Meghan’s cancer on the front lines, I truly believed we are humbly deserving of the ‘Salute to Love’ wedding experience,” said Air Force 2nd Lt. John Avrett. “As ambassadors for the United States, Meghan and I both want to be a beacon of hope and a measure of inspiration for everyone that comes across our story. We know this dream wedding will set the tone for an amazing marriage. We are so incredibly thankful for everyone’s support and encouragement.”
Launched July 4, 2011, Salute to Love sought nominations from active duty military couples to be chosen for the ultimate Outer Banks wedding experience with OBXBrides.com vendors.
