The Official North Carolina Travel Guide has been recognized as a technological trendsetter and is a finalist in the 2011 Digital Magazine Awards.

Journal Communications is pleased to announce the company will continue its longstanding relationship with the North Carolina Division of Tourism, Film and Sports Development as publisher of the Official North Carolina Travel Guide.

For 16 years, Journal has partnered with the Division to promote state tourism through compelling editorial, photography and video that engage readers and help deliver visitors to North Carolina destinations. The travel guide has become a powerful marketing tool for Division partners.

“Since the North Carolina Tourism Call Center uses this guide as its primary promotional tool for statewide inquiries, I always make sure there is a line item in my budget for the publication each year,” says Tracey Trimble, executive vice president & general manager, Hickory Furniture Mart.

In addition to the print guide, Journal also produces digital and mobile versions of the magazine. In 2011, Journal partnered with the Division and Nxtbook Media, the leading provider of digital options for publishers, to develop a free app that allows travelers to access articles and photos from the Official North Carolina Travel Guide print publication on their iPads. The app release signals a continuation of the Division’s innovative leadership in the area of digital distribution. Currently, North Carolina is only one of five states offering a mobile travel guide app.

The digital version of the travel guide – published both in English and German – features animated advertisements, embedded video, expanded photo gallery and live links to the Division’s website visitnc.com. The digital guide has been recognized as a technological trendsetter for state travel guides by the Custom Content Council and is a finalist in the 2011 Digital Magazine Awards for Travel Magazine of the Year.
