Huntington Beach, CA (PRWEB) November 12, 2011
When Surfline says Wave of the Winter they really mean it this time around. After a successful six weeks worth of entrants in 2010, Surfline’s newly-revamped Wave of the Winter event offers an extended holding period – November 12st ‘11-February 29th ’12 -- for those chargers stationed along the Seven-Mile Miracle to bag the ride of their lives.
Nike is back as the presenting sponsor, offering $25-large to the winning surfer and five-Gs to the accompanying filmer. And since the period lasts throughout the most-active time in the North Pacific, Clif Bar will plunk an extra $7,500 down for the Overall Performance Award-- $2,500 to the surfer with an additional $5,000 donation made in their name to a local non-profit that benefits the community and/or environment.
Kalani Chapman won Wave of the Winter in 2010 for his AI tribute Pipe bomb, though most entries were only from a single November Pipeline swell. Needless to say, this year’s expanded contest window leans towards the hands-down heaviest wave of the entire winter season winning.
After each month, the field of entrants will be narrowed down and top rides will be highlighted in a Surfline feature. On March 1st, an esteemed judging panel led by Gerry Lopez will select the ultimate winning wave/surfer as well as the season’s Overall Performance Award.
So as soon as those long-period NPAC swells start arriving along Oahu’s northern shores, expect a wave of heart-thumping video clips to begin rolling through the pages of Surfline. Check back often -- it’s sure to be a wild ride.
Surfline’s Wave of the Winter presented by Nike will be won by the surfer who catches and successfully rides the single best wave of the contest period on the North Shore. Surfline editors will select each month’s top rides and they will be deemed the finalists for the grand prize. A special Clif Bar Overall Performance Award will also be given for the season’s top standout.
