Vertilon Launches SIB416 for Hamamatsu S11064 Multi-Pixel Photon Counter

New Product Supports Data Acquisition from up to 64 Silicon Photomultiplier Channels

Vertilon Corporation (, a leader in high performance charge integrating and photon counting data acquisition systems for optical sensors, announced today that it has launched a new product for use with the Hamamatsu S11064 multi-pixel photon counter (MPPC).

The product called the SIB416 is designed to give researchers and developers a quick and easy path to evaluate the S11064 low light level sensor. Multi-pixel photon counters are an exciting technological advancement offering a lower cost, solid state alternative to photomultiplier tubes in a select set of applications. The S11064 is likely to find significant use in applications that include PET, SPECT, gamma cameras, and radiation detection.

Designed for direct interface to Vertilon’s PhotoniQ charge integrating DAQ systems, the SIB416 includes all of the electrical and mechanical hardware to fully support up to 64 input channels from up to four Hamamatsu MPPC devices. The S11064 devices mount to the SIB416 where their cathode signals are routed to connectors that interface to charge integrating preamplifiers in the PhotoniQ DAQ.

A special current-sense output from the MPPC anodes is used to represent the combined charge signal measured from all SiPM devices in the arrays. This signal is fed to a user-programmable leading edge discriminator that generates a trigger signal when an event exceeding a preset energy threshold is detected on any of the S11064’s. The PhotoniQ graphical user interface provides a convenient way to configure all adjustable parameters on the SIB416 and thus optimize its use for the intended application.
