Salem, NH (PRWEB) November 16, 2011
EJL Wireless Research is announcing the first report within its new and proprietary series of research reports focused on the RF transmission lines market that connects wireless macro cell base stations (BTS) and the BTS antennas. The first report focuses on the global feeder cable market which is the primary solution that interfaces the macro cell BTS to the BTS antenna.
“The market dropped 29.4% year over year in total volumes (measured in km of cables) in 2010. The 7/8” diameter feeder cable segment was the largest in shipment volumes in 2010 however the 1 ¼” or greater diameter feeder cable segment was the largest in revenues in 2010. While aluminum cable product shipments tend to increase as the price of raw copper increases, mobile operators continue to rely on and prefer copper outer conductor feeder cables” said founder and President, Earl Lum.
Weak end market demand in Asia Pacific (China and India) and Africa offset strong demand in North America in 2010.
“We estimate a continual decline in BTS feeder cable shipments over the next five years as migration to tower top RRU BTS site architectures will force the replacement of coaxial feeder cables with fiber optic cables. While cables will still be required for the transmission line connection from the RRU port to the antenna port, the much shorter lengths will alter the economic viability of the feeder cable market,” says Lum.
