Having tens of thousands of drives in stock for Dell PowerEdge, HP ProLiant and IBM SystemX servers, Great Lakes offers customers access to products no one else has.
Grand Rapids, Michigan (PRWEB) November 16, 2011
Great Lakes Computer, a 25 year old billion dollar technology reseller, announced today that it has taken massive inventory positions on Dell, HP and IBM SAS & SATA server hard disk drives (HDDs) to support customers through an anticipated 6 month supply chain disruption due to flooding in Thailand.
Thailand being the 2nd largest manufacturer of Hard Disk Drives (HDD) in the world has severely impacted the server and PC industry. Affecting manufacturing behemoths Dell, Hewlett Packard and IBM, Western Digital and Toshiba’s two largest disk manufacturing plants supplied more than 40% of all HDDs worldwide.
With supply disruptions expected to last for up to 6 months, this has the potential to cause major problems in the technology industry. Not only is the better-known commercial side of IT expecting to take a hit, the enterprise IT industry is also expecting to experience difficulties in getting needed HDD’s to complete server and storage deployments.
Covering virtually every drive capacity, RPM, form factor (2.5” SFF and 3.5” LFF), SAS and SATA models, Great Lakes Computer has inventory for all of the most popular Dell PowerEdge, HP ProLiant and IBM System X server models.
When asked why Great Lakes was stocking so many disks, their VP of Operations was quoted as saying, “As a stocking parts distributor and systems integrator, Great Lakes Computer has been increasing our inventory positions on disk drive for several weeks. Having tens of thousands of drives in stock for Dell PowerEdge, HP ProLiant and IBM SystemX servers, Great Lakes offers customers access to products no one else has.”
