DANO’s Creature Case: The Perfect iPhone App Toy Christmas Gift at Kickstarter.com

Share Article

DANO Toys' designer iPhone case doubles as an App Toy and needs small business supporters to donate at kickstarter.com before Christmas in order to produce the toys. Donors may pre-order cases as original Christmas gifts, and recipients can follow the process of their gift being made on the kickstarter.com blog.

DANO Toys launches the Creature Case, an interactive iPhone case, on Kickstarter.com. The company hopes to raise $15,000 by Christmas in order to be able to produce the family-friendly designer case that will turn any ordinary iPhone into a creature of the user’s imagination. Each case includes a set of attachable arms and legs as well as an animated face making app called Creature Feature.

Because children have already proven their love for the iPhone as a toy, DANO Toys' founder, Daniel Monahan, believes that “the natural extension of play for children is to integrate old-fashioned manipulation of parts (body creation) with touch-screen technology (face creation) for a thoroughly twenty-first century version of play.” Thus DANO Toys has pushed forward a new genre of toy, the “App Toy.”

"We opted to use Kickstarter to gain funding for our project because we wanted to connect more directly with our consumers. We believe that most people want to give thoughtful, creative gifts at the holidays, and ideally gifts that make some sort of difference. This allows the giver to give a part of the process of creation as well as the actual Creature Case.”

Kickstarter.com is a successful website that allows anyone online to support small businesses by donating directly to a wide variety of projects. In return, donors receive rewards, often the rewards are (as is the case with DANO Toys) the products themselves upon completion. The projects, however, have a minimum funding requirement that must be met by the end of their funding campaign. If that requirement is not met, then no funds or rewards are exchanged.

While children will certainly enjoy assembling creatures, adults may use the attractive case as a designer accessory as well. The simple legs may be plugged into the phone to create a stand for better viewing of video online. The kit includes an insert that enables the case to fit all versions of the iPhone and iPod Touch.

DANO Toys was founded in 2008 by pop toy artist Daniel Monahan in an effort to bring modern design and integrity to the process of toymaking. Since then, DANO Toys' Circus Teethers teething rings, BugBite teether, Ducki bath toy, and top-ranked iPad/iPhone app Little Sky Writers have won numerous awards, and garnered attention from national and international media like Parenting Magazine, CNN, and People.com.
