The Bright Christmas lights of London haven’t lost their sparkle as almost half of Brits (45 per cent) voted London the best shopping destination in the UK, according to Wimdu.
Ahead of the Christmas period, which traditionally sees retailers take in 25% of their annual revenue, a YouGov poll of 2,143 Britons by social travel website Wimdu.co.uk, revealed we still like a good high street shopping trip.
WAG favourite Manchester was voted the second best shopping destination, followed by Birmingham, Glasgow and Leeds.
The high streets are clearly paved with receipts as almost 9 in 10 Britons also voted the capital as the most expensive city in the UK, as well as the most stylish (43 per cent). Undeterred by the expense, we’re still determined to get our shopping fix as Wimdu have noticed a 23% increase in Christmas bookings to the top 5 shopping capitals.
Michael Riegel, CEO of Wimdu UK said: “Christmas shopping for our loved ones has become so ingrained in Christmas tradition we like to make the most of it. People want to find that extra special gift, and that can mean heading further afield to make a weekend of it, as you can see by the increased overnight stays on Wimdu to the top shopping cities in the UK.”

Jace Tyrrell of The New West End Company also commented: “£1 billion is spent in the West End during December and retailers will be pulling out all the stops to ensure that shoppers get the most out of their Christmas purchasing. We anticipate that sales in the West End will be boosted by high spending international visitors from China to Russia, America and Japan flocking in for a West End Christmas.”
