The Oxford Downtown Council is proud to announce details of its 2011 Holiday Open House on Friday, November 25 around the historic Oxford Square. This year’s Open House will feature a host of family-friendly activities and events to usher in the holiday season.

“The Council hopes to make this year’s Holiday Open House special by offering fun activities that appeal to every family member,” says Patsy Engelhard, chair of the Oxford Downtown Council. “In addition to shopping and dining, there will be a number of opportunities for families to share in festive holiday activities together – many for free.” The City has agreed to allow the Council to provide a Christmas tree on the Square – a first for Oxford. The Open House event will be capped off with a Lighting Ceremony at 6 p.m. when Mayor Patterson will “throw the switch” to light the tree and the Square. Santa will then officiate the Raffle for Downtown Dollars (available at participating Council shops).

The day’s schedule of events will be as follows:
•12 p.m. – 5 p.m. Photos with Santa in the breezeway of Oxford Square North at 265 North Lamar
•12 p.m. – 5 p.m. Children’s Ornament Decoration Station on the Courthouse lawn
•12 p.m. – 7 p.m. Music throughout the Square
•6 p.m. – Christmas tree lighting ceremony hosted by Mayor Patterson in front of City Hall
•6:15 p.m. – Downtown Dollars Raffle hosted by Santa on the steps of City Hall

In addition, the Oxford Convention and Visitor's Bureau will provide coffee and hot chocolate in front of Skipwith Cottage. And no one should miss the Double Decker Bus Tours at 1pm and 2pm!

The 2011 Holiday Open House is sponsored by Cannon Motor Company, Sneed’s Ace Hardware, Oxford Family Pharmacy and M&F Bank. Cannon Motor Company will sponsor the arrival of Santa in one of their Chevrolet Tahoes. Sneed’s Ace Hardware will be providing lights for the Christmas tree.
