“Let’s Shop Bastrop” is a charity event created by Catalina Lizarraga and Pooja Patel. Seniors at Austin High School as part of their involvement with the Academy for Global Studies Program. Lizarraga and Patel worked to develop and implement a project that would support the Bastrop small locally owned community after the horrible wildfires burned more than 30,000 acres of land and destroyed thousands of homes. The impact of the fires is felt not only to homeowners but to the businesses within Bastrop.

Austin High seniors, Lizarraga and Patel were surprised to hear that the downtown area of Bastrop was unaffected by the fires and is not only open but also eager for business. The AHS seniors partnered with the LOCALoyalty team and met with Bastrop city leaders to literally send bus loads of shoppers into Bastrop for the day to experience all that the city has to offer as part of the "Let's Shop Bastrop" project. The day's events include discounted shopping, an official ribbon cutting ceremony, dinner and a show at the historic Bastrop Opera House. “We are thrilled to be mentoring the young ladies from Austin High School. They are committed to helping to revitalize the Bastrop locally owned business community; it was a natural fit for LOCALoyalty to be involved. “ said, Tina Cannon President & COO of LOCALoyalty. The “Let’s Shop Bastrop” event will benefit local Bastrop businesses now and in the future as well as develop a stronger sense of community between the Austin and Bastrop area.
