Spanish Start-up Takes on Competitors in Distributed Version Control Systems Debuts first enterprise oriented DVCS offering a solid platform that provides a strong set of tools for managing the source tree.

“What we have launched today is a solution for clients seeking higher performance and more-sophisticated release handling,” said Francisco Monteverde, CEO, Códice Software CEO. “

Códice Software, a Spanish R&D company specializing in Software Configuration Management solutions today announces the availability of Plastic SCM 4.0, the latest version of its Distributed Version Control System (DVCS) software. With this new version, Códice Software provides a superior platform that supports a strong set of tools for source tree management that is lacking in open-source solutions.

Branching and merging made simple
With Plastic SCM 4.0, developers can find a solution that embraces agile methods and true parallel development without being locked into arcane branching patterns and with the opportunity for distributed working. Due to the shortened development cycles of Plastic SCM, managers can hit the market faster, enabling better cooperation among de-located teams and offices.

“What we have launched today is a solution for clients seeking higher performance and more-sophisticated release handling,” said Francisco Monteverde, CEO, Códice Software CEO. “This is the choice for developers who love the freedom of distributed and simple branching and merging.”

“There are numerous features in Plastic SCM 4.0 that will help teams transition to DVCS and make branching and merging much more productive,” remarked Pablo Santos, co-founder and President of Códice Software. “This solution enables component oriented development with Xlinks, combined with seamless branch per task. It offers unmatched agility in distributed environments.”

Plastic SCM 4.0 features include:

  •     Fully Distributed or Centralized repositories making distant teams work together with a full DVCS for developers on the move
  •     Branching and Merging that work: Developers can now boost productivity with better isolation, applying more control and stability to releases and having the chance to track the entire process through the branch explorer
  •     Powerful GUI or straight CLI: Provides visualization of data and procedures that simplifies even the most sophisticated version control operations
  •     Reliable & Scalable Repositories Storage with any choice of RDBMS
  •     Flexible: customizable, agile, works the way developers work

To complement the release, Códice Software is holding an online press conference at 10AM PST on November 17th to showcase the benefits of Plastic SCM 4.0, the most advanced DVCS, supporting task driven development for teams of all sizes. In addition, the conference features Robert C. Martin, author of “Clean Code: A Handbook of Agile Software Craftsmanship” and “Master Craftsman at 8th Light Inc.” Robert Martin adds, “It is important for developers to understand that DBAs are not their enemies. Developers have a huge responsibility to keep the enterprise systems safe, secure, and high performing. The distributed source code control makes branching so easy and merging so incredibly simple”.

Pricing
Plastic SCM's license model is per-developer, meaning that a company buys as many licenses as developers will be using the tool, independent of the number of servers for which there is no charge. The price of Plastic SCM 4.0 includes a one-time license fee plus first year of full support and maintenance, including download access to all new releases within the year. Annual maintenance and support renewal includes download access to all new releases in subsequent years. Plastic SCM Community edition is free for 15 developers or less, and has an optional package for support at minimum cost.
