Clopton Capital has recently completed a simple and objective consumer study that outlines the estimated cost of financing a semi truck in hopes that it will encourage more truck drivers to utilize semi truck financing to purchase their own tractor trailers. The study is based on fiver years of financing at a typical interest rate and at a purchase price of $70,000 for a pre owned semi truck.

Typically it can be found that the total revenue earned by an independent trucker is three times what a non-self employed trucker makes. According to the firm, the added cost of a trucker owning their own truck is roughly $20,000 to $30,000 a year. This means that even after the cost of owning a semi truck, the typical income of a self employed trucker is double that of the salaried or per mile paid driver.

“This is really encouraging to our industry. If you can make twice as much working as a self employed trucker and simply take on a truck payment, I can't imagine myself not doing it if I were a trucker”, said Jake Clopton, the founder of Clopton Capital.

Clopton Capital intends to publish a detailed explanation of exactly what the itemized costs of owning a truck versus driving for an employer are. Their goal in doing this is to show that while owning a semi is a significant responsibility, the long term benefits are worth it.
