We’ve all heard how people love to buy shoes. Well, now there’s an opportunity for Chicago residents to feel better about their addiction. The National Association of Professional Organizers – Chicago chapter of (NAPO-Chicago) and 1-800-GOT-JUNK? are both partners in a national program called Soles4Souls and have teamed up to drive a local shoe collection for charity that’s unprecedented in size. The goal is to collect more than 5000 pairs of soles for souls during this campaign, December 15.
NAPO has challenged its members across the country to collect as many shoes as possible. The winner will receive a trip to Haiti to deliver shoes to people in need. It’s a challenge that local professional organizers in Chicago are motivated to win. 1-800-GOT-JUNK? is currently in discussions with the national charity to offer a similar challenge to its franchise partners across the country.
Soles4Souls is a national charity with a simple mission to collect shoes and distribute them to people in need. Since 2005, Soles4Souls has given away over 13 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes (currently donating one pair every 7 seconds.) The shoes have been distributed to people in over 125 countries, including Kenya, Thailand, Nepal and the United States. Soles4Souls is a 501(c)(3) recognized by the IRS and donating parties are eligible for tax advantages.
Soles4Souls offers a simple way to help reduce the strain on our environment. Last year alone, Americans discarded more than 300 million pairs of shoes. When these shoes break down in our landfills, the toxic glue that holds the shoes together can leak into our water supply and atmosphere.
The current goal is to collect 12 Million pairs of shoes by June 30th, 2012. NAPO members and 1-800-GOT-JUNK? franchise partners across the country are thrilled to be involved in a charity that is a natural fit with their business models and puts smiles on the faces of people around the world.
