The People’s Community Baptist Church in partnership with the Montgomery County (MD) Alumnae Chapter (MCAC) – Delta Sigma Theta sorority, Inc., presents the second Annual WORLD AIDS DAY Symposium, entitled FACING AIDS. The Event is scheduled for Thursday, December 1, 2011 from 6:30pm to 9:00pm, at The People’s Community Baptist Church, in the Norwood Center, located at 31 Norwood Road, Silver spring, MD 20905.
The objective is to inform the public of this increasingly serious problem, and other health consequences related to HIV/AIDS that continues to impact residents of Montgomery County.
The panel of leading experts will include, Dr. Ulder Tillman, Health Officer for Montgomery County, Sr. Barney S. Graham, MD, PhD, Senior Investigator, Vaccine Research Center, NIH, Bethesda, MD, USA, and Dr. Bola Idowa, African American Health Program, Montgomery County, MD, who will provide the alarming statistics, and outline precautions residents should use to protect themselves from this increasing problem.
The Mistress of Ceremony will be 9NEWS NOW’s Emmy Award Winning Journalist, Lesli Foster.

Montgomery County (MD) Alumnae Chapter (MCAC) – Delta Sigma Theta sorority, Inc. President, Lorna P. Forde, is focused on consistently sponsoring programs that foster Economic Development, Education Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement-missions that are aligned with the sorority’s National initiatives and are the basis for which the sorority was founded 98 years ago. Continued support and collaboration with community partners enables MCAC, DST Sorority, Inc. to build and sustain positive change in Montgomery County. The Montgomery County (MD) Alumnae Chapter – Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.’s WORLD AIDS DAY Program falls under the sorority’s International Awareness & Involvement programmatic thrust.
Other program highlights will include Mistress of Ceremony, Emmy award Winning, Lesli Foster, NEWS9; viewing of a featured documentary film that will share personal stories form HIV survivors; HIV on-site testing – sponsored by GAPBUSTERS LEARNING CENTER; a WORLD AIDS DAY Remembrance Ceremony, and light refreshments.
