Colleen Paige, National Little Dog Day is one of Paige’s many popular pet related lifesaving holidays devoted to the joys of living with animals and saving them from shelters. National Little Dog Day is a day to discover and celebrate all the wonders and advantages of living with little dogs. A list of “Why Little Dogs Rule” can be found on the holiday website at http://www.LittleDogDay.com. The mission of this day encourages adoption from shelters, discouraging pet lovers from buying puppies, especially from pet stores and advocates spaying and neutering.

“Pet stores are the number one reason that puppy mills exist. Puppy Mills are virtual torture chambers that churn out their fur covered commodities at an alarming rate, abusing and neglecting all the animals in their care for profit. Most do not receive the health care and medical treatment they need, they’re starved, taken from their mothers too early, packed like sardines into small dirty cages and arrive at the pet store, unbeknownst to many, very ill. I importune everyone who cares about this topic to ask their local pet store to stop selling dogs and cats, period” said Colleen Paige, founder of the day.

Mommy Bus, which also was the presenting sponsor of National Cat Day and soon to be the same for National Mutt Day (Dec. 2nd) is a huge advocate of animal welfare and is a role model for the pet businesses. Mannie, their supermodel over-sized “teacup” yorkie is also the Mascot of National Little Dog Day and he’ll also be advocating for little dogs everywhere!

“I am thrilled because I am a proud owner of a little dog that has brought such joy to my life for 13 wonderful years. Because I truly believe that little dogs are best, it is truly an honor for Little Mannie to be selected as the mascot for the day that honors all dogs like him. I am extremely proud to be affiliated with an organization such as the Animal Miracle Network that promotes better treatment of animals with practical solutions such as adoption” said Diane Dellefave, owner of Mommy Bus.
