In a collection of poems outlining an emotionally-charged journey exploring the sweet and delicate shades of the heart, author DeWayne Montres Grant tells the tale of love, pain, heartache and joy. Delicate is an expressive, artistic and intimate reflection of Grant’s inner-most thoughts and feelings.
Grant’s love of poetry began in elementary school, when an English teacher encouraged students to maintain a private journal. That’s when, Grant recalls, poetry found him. By his account, his relationship with poetry remains the same to this day.
“My poetry is extremely personal, and every word reflects personal experiences, or echoes the world surrounding me,” says Grant.
In the poem “Foolish”, Grant examines his journey, a portion of which follows:
…Still learning to be myself in front of others
Still searching for the deeper, hidden me
Trying to contain myself
And yet be what I am meant to be
Still hoping to discover what’s beneath the surface
While allowing them to see it too…
Delicate captures one man’s account of life’s most universal challenges and triumphs.
“Life is a dizzying mix of love, pain, heartache and joy,” Grant says, “beyond that, there is plenty of room for both self-discovery and self-doubt. Life was, and is, my inspiration.”
