Tom Baker returns to the role of the fourth Doctor Who and celebrates by commissioning a series of portraits by award winning photographer Oliver McNeil.
With the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who coming up in 2013 and a movie directed by David Yates (he directed the last four Harry Potter films) being planned by the BBC, it is with great delight that fans can welcome the return of Tom Baker to the role of the fourth Doctor. To celebrate this and his life in acting,Tom Baker has commissioned award winning fantasy portrait photographer Oliver McNeil and Photography Entrepreneur to shoot a collection of high quality art portraits which will be personalised and signed, to his fans worldwide.
Legend Photography wanted to show the many sides of his character, from his impish humor to his reflective intellect. Oliver McNeil from his studio (Legend Photography in the Old Town of Hastings) is no stranger to shooting Doctor Who actors, having already shot people from the classic, movie and current television incarnation.
“We shot the portraits over two days, firstly at my studio and a week later in the historic town of Rye. After reading up on Tom's personal website, I discovered his love of France, this led me to buy a bottle of red wine and serve it to Tom in a large crystal goblet. Even though it was 9am this seemed to relax Tom into the role of raconteur; I was then treated to some of his wonderful stories as we shot the session.”
What makes these signed photographs different, is rather than your normal 10 x 8 inch glossy, these are beautiful, art gallery quality photographic portraits, personally signed by Tom from his home. Also on request he will personalise each piece of work, with the fans name, if they so wish. The amazing art prints are only available from http://www.legend-photography.com and can be sent to anywhere in the world.
As much as it would be wonderful to see Tom Baker back on the screen for one more appearance in the current incarnation of Doctor Who, it is through audio that it is possible to hear his new adventures. At present the BBC has the Hornets Nest and the Demons Quest audio adventures, also starring Richard Franklin, Susan Jameson and Daniel Hill, but it is with Big Finish that fans can see another dramatic return to form.
Already Big Finish have netted former Doctors, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann to reprise there roles. David Tennant has also been featured on Big Finish audio, though in a different role, before he was made Doctor.
For Big Finish, Tom Baker will be starring in Destination, Nerva, The Renaissance Man, The Wrath of the Iceni, Energy of the Daleks, Trail of the White Worm and a sixth story to be announced, all featuring Tom Baker as the Doctor and Louise Jameson as Leela. Also avalible are six more stories starring Tom Baker, with Mary Tamm as Romana, plus The Lost Stories box set, containing The Foe from the Future and The Valley of Death.
What are the chances of seeing the fourth Doctor on screen? Either fans can buy some of his classic episodes from his official websites shop, which stocks nearly everything he has ever shot for the BBC or take consolation in this. Tom said this year on RobotPorter Youtube channel “If the Doctor went into a part of the Tardis where the Doctors could come back, all of them, the surviving ones and the ones that haven’t survived could be seen there, so the present Doctor could say “Look theres more to me that meets the eye”..... I think that would be rather funny and touching, and my fans might rather like that..... I would consider that.”
