During Free Webinar, Special Agent Will Discuss MS-13’s Presence in Local Communities and Ties to Terrorism

Henley-Putnam University’s next free webinar takes an in-depth look at perhaps the most violent and far-reaching gang currently operating on United States soil when it unveils the secrets of MS-13: America’s Most Dangerous Gang https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/869493834.

On December 1st, 2011 at 1:00 PM, EDT, the webinar will be led by Colonel Michael Angley, former U.S. Air Force Special Agent with a 25-year career in federal law enforcement and intelligence. Col Angley also serves as a Senior Military Advisor to Henley-Putnam University.

The webinar will detail information on the gang’s origins, operating locations, organizational structure, gang identification methods, and more. MS-13, or Mara Salvatrucha, was founded in Los Angeles in the 1980s by immigrants from El Salvador and has 8,000 to 10,000 members in the United States, according to the FBI. The heavily tattooed members are initiated by "jumping in," a beating they take from other members that lasts 13 seconds. Then, according to prosecutors, they rise in the ranks by committing acts of violence.

On August 31, 2011, San Francisco's biggest gang trial in many years came to a close when a jury convicted six men of racketeering and conspiracy as members of MS-13, a crime organization that waged war against rivals and defectors in San Francisco's Mission District and was found responsible for at least three 2008 murders. The six men, facing up to life in prison, will be sentenced on Nov. 30.

Though MS-13 has its original roots in California, it now plagues numerous major U.S. cities,” said Col. Angley. “MS-13 gang members have no fear of law enforcement, and many within the intelligence community believe the gang may be involved in smuggling terrorists or sympathizers into the United States. Knowledge of the gang and their methodology is the first step towards curtailing their illegal activities.”

Tune in on December 1st at 1:00 PM EDT to find out what the growth of criminal gangs throughout the U.S. means to our communities.
