Oaks Christian Online School freshman competes at highest level in premier Texas soccer tournament over the Thanksgiving holiday week.

Summer Senn, an Oaks Christian Online School freshman, plays for two soccer teams while completing her high school classes online with Oaks Christian Online School. Summer plays Center with the Division II Dallas Texans, part of the Lake Highlands Girls Classic League, and the Thanksgiving Dallas Texan Fall Festival has registered teams from as far away as Alaska. Summer is one of the younger team members, yet she enjoys the role of co-captain, starter and prayer leader with her team before each game.

Summer has been playing soccer since she was 4 years old. She also currently plays Left Wing on a varsity Home School Athletic Association team that plays other private and public schools throughout Texas. Summer may have an opportunity to travel to Springfield Missouri in May for the National Home School Soccer Tournament. She averages eight to ten hours a week of playing and practice, not including travel time. Summer is not solely defined by soccer, however, and loves to read classic literature, listen to contemporary Christian music and serve as 3rd grade helper at Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, TX. She hopes one day to attend a Christian university that is also a Division I or II soccer school, such as Abilene Christian University or Dallas Baptist University. Summer was home schooled before she began online high school.

“Working online is very different from what I’ve done before. I have to be very disciplined and accountable to my teachers,” said Summer.

According to Vicki Conway, Director of Oaks Christian Online School, “Summer is exactly the type of focused, college-bound student that will thrive at our school.”

The main campus of Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village opened in the fall of 2000 and Oaks Christian Online School (OCO) opened for full-time, online students in the fall of 2011.
