Merchants worldwide are well acquainted with the accessibility and ease of selling their products online. But when the world’s largest e-store comes knocking on your door to sell your products, sales are bound to multiply.

Such was the case for Martin Wiggett, President of Stealth Hydroponics, Inc. Wiggett, who started his hydroponics growing business in 2005 during a cold Michigan winter, says that when on-line retailer came a callin’, he knew that this was an opportunity not be missed.

“Amazon allows us to reach a large market of buyers while sharing the advertising expenses with hundreds of other manufacturers who sell their products to the public,” says Wiggett from his home base in Milan, MI. He noted that selling on Amazon offers smaller manufacturers an important way to advertise and sell with only a modest investment.

Amazon went on-line in 1995 as an on-line bookstore, but soon diversified into selling everything from electronics and computer software and video games, to apparel, furniture, lawn equipment, groceries and toys. Its star power is undeniable and the domain attracts at least 615 million visitors annually (2008). Latest data shows that attracts more than 80 million customers to its U.S. website alone each month.

Amazon carries Stealth Hydroponics’ complete product line of hydroponic equipment, including the innovative Bubbleponics™ and Oxyponics® feeding systems for growing plants using hydroponic methods. “Amazon recruited Stealth Hydroponics to be part of their shopping experience offering customers an American-made alternative to other hydroponics systems,” Wiggett says.

He explains that Amazon’s customer-driven philosophy mirrors Stealth Hydroponics’ dedication to customer satisfaction, warranty and high-quality products. “We are a good match as business partners,” he notes.

Stealth Hydroponics sells the majority of its products to the public via its on-line channel at, or at its two retail locations (in Ypsilanti and Milan, MI). Products manufactured by Stealth Hydroponics are also available through other retailers selling hydroponic equipment and supplies.

According to Wiggett, 10% of Stealth Hydroponics’ sales now flow through Amazon. Although Stealth Hydroponics has been in partnership with Amazon for only a few months, sales are already on the rise and Wiggett anticipates that this will gradually increase.

“Selling on Amazon is a proportional way of doing business,” Wiggett explains. “Once products are bought and used, reviews are posted and views of our products are counted. In turn, purchasers see value in our products, so sales will increase at a faster pace going forward.”

Stealth Hydroponics currently has 72 items listed on the site, but the success of the partnership means that number will increase as product lines expand.
