Bloomington, Minn. (PRWEB) November 23, 2011
A coalition of organizations is sponsoring a free metro wide event on December 6 featuring Patrick Schwarz PhD who is a National-Louis University professor, author, motivational speaker and leader in Education (Inclusive Education, Special Education, General Education, Educational Leadership) and Human Services. Schwarz is presenting on “From Disability to Possibility – The Power of Inclusion.” The Twin Cities event will be held at the Bloomington Civic Plaza, 1800 W. Old Shakopee Road, Bloomington, Minnesota, 55431-3027 from 7– 9:30 p.m. The evening will be dynamic and interactive.
This crucial dialogue is organized in celebration of the 11th Annual Inclusive Schools Week, December 5-9, 2011. The importance of this week was underscored by Governor Dayton’s recent proclamation recognizing the weeklong celebration in Minnesota. Inclusive Schools Week highlights the accomplishments of families, schools, and communities who collaborate to provide inclusive education for all children. The week celebrates the progress that schools have made in implementing inclusive practices, ensuring a quality education for an increasingly diverse student population—including students with disabilities, those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and those who are economically disadvantaged.
Whether in the home, classroom, workplace or broader community, participants will gain a broader view of capable learners and contributing community members… individuals with possibilities. Drawing on real life experiences, Schwarz will illustrate effective inclusive practices in education and in life. Schwarz’s vivid examples will activate participants to re-think, re-imagine and transform education and human services for individuals of all ages and abilities.
“From Disability to Possibility – The Power of Inclusion” is sponsored by: Landscape Structures, Inc., The City of Bloomington Human Services Division, Wilderness Inquiry, Institute on Community Integration – University of Minnesota, Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valley Girl Scout Council, University of St. Thomas, Parents United for Public Schools and The International Dyslexia Association, Upper Midwest Branch.
Educators, students, parents, administrators and policymakers from across the Twin Cities are invited to celebrate and capture additional insight into successfully educating all children through inclusive practices.
