Symmetry Corporation Successfully Completes SSAE 16 (formally SAS 70 Type II) Audit for SAP Outsourcing Services; Auditor's Report Finds No Control Exceptions

It reflects our primary goal that is to provide our customers with the best SAP Technical Services possible by being a better kind of business.

Symmetry Corporation, a SAP® certified hosting partner and industry leader in outsourced SAP administration and SAP security services today announced that it has successfully attained SSAE 16 certification.

The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants' states SSAE 16 certification is applicable when an entity outsources a business task or function to another entity (usually one that specializes in that task or function) and the data resulting from that task or function is incorporated in the outsourcer’s financial statements.

“Earning our SSAE 16 Certification audit with no reported exceptions is something our business and all our employees should be proud of. It reflects our primary goal that is to provide our customers with the best SAP Technical Services possible by being a better kind of business,” said Frank Powell, Chief Operating Officer.

“Simply having a SSAE 16 report does not imply perfect controls. Organizations reviewing potential service providers need to do their due diligence and check the auditor’s report for exceptions,” notes Powell.

Symmetry’s SAP Basis outsourcing services are delivered from a Center of Excellence in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Their Basis engineers manage clients’ critical business systems remotely and have access to sometimes sensitive data. For this reason Symmetry’s controls are designed to:

  •      Ensure secure physical access to Symmetry’s corporate offices
  •      Maintain the integrity of Symmetry’s internal IT systems
  •      Provide secure access and communications to Symmetry’s client base
  •      Regularly review role based security access rights to both client and internal systems
  •      Maintain an audit trail for change requests and issue resolution.

Procedures required by SSAE 16 are either the same as, or in some cases, more rigorous than required by the SAS 70. Therefore, in a SSAE 16 engagement the service auditor obtains the same level of evidence and provides the same level of assurance as the service auditor did under SAS 70 ( according to AICPA). Although not a requirement, this report provides peace of mind for privately held organizations, such as Symmetry.

“For many organizations SSAE 16 is seen as a mark of service quality,” said Powell, “For Symmetry it demonstrates that the nature of our services, and how they are performed, as well as our control over them are where they need them to be, so that we can continue to best serve our customers.”
