Titan Books’ The Simon & Kirby Library: CRIME hits The New York Times Best-Seller List, ranking # 5 in Hardcover Graphic Books. (Rankings reflect sales for the week ending November 12, 2011.)

From the Golden Age of the comic book era comes an unrivalled collection of thrilling crime comics – torn from the headlines of the day! The Simon & Kirby Library: CRIME [Titan Books, $49.95, October 25, 2011] is the latest volume in the critically acclaimed Simon & Kirby Library Series, featuring Titan’s ambitious restoration of Simon & Kirby’s greatest work.

“Joe and Jack were pioneers in every genre, and their crime comics are among the best ever published,” said Titan Editor Steve Saffel. “It’s wonderful to see them receiving acclaim for the wonderful, hard-hitting adventures they produced together.”

Joe Simon and Jack Kirby produced some of the most action-packed—and at times controversial—crime comics of the 1950s. Often featuring real-world criminals like Ma Barker, Al Capone and Pretty Boy Floyd, and true-to-life events like the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, these adventures were torn from the post-Prohibition headlines.

With an introduction from award-winning crime writer Max Allan Collins (Road to Perdition), this unique anthology, complete with full digital restorations approved by Joe Simon himself, now 98, offers some of the rarest Simon and Kirby stories collected for the first time ever.

“Explosive enough to draw the attention of the congressional committee on juvenile delinquency, these comics remain action-packed for today’s graphic novel audience,” says Collins. “Simon and Kirby were famous for changing the way comic books were created, in a way that continues today!”

“Simon and Kirby are such geniuses at their craft that they make stories… work like gangbusters.” – Ain’t It Cool News

“Cops, robbers, gangsters, molls, femmes fatales and a whole lot of bullets, all done by one of the most famous comic-book teams in history.” – USA Today

JOE SIMON and Jack Kirby created one of the most enduring American heroes in 1940 with the first issue of Captain America Comics for Timely Comics, the company that became Marvel Comics. Simon proved to be a brilliant editor, writer, penciller, inker, and businessman, serving as an editor for Archie, Harvey, Fox, Crestwood and Mainline Publications – Simon and Kirby’s own company. JACK KIRBY is one of the most famous illustrators in comic book history. Having begun in the Fox Comics Bullpen in 1939, he teamed with Joe Simon on such seminal series as Blue Bolt and Captain Marvel Adventures.

THE OFFICIAL SIMON AND KIRBY LIBRARY In 2009 Titan signed an exclusive agreement with Joe Simon to publish The Official Simon and Kirby Library. The ongoing Library series has included The Best of Simon and Kirby (2009), Simon & Kirby: Superheroes (2010), The Simon & Kirby Library: Crime (2011) and will also include volumes collecting the greatest stories in Horror and in Romance ever produced by the legendary Dream Team of comics. Additionally, Titan has published the official autobiography: Joe Simon: The Man Behind the Comics (2011).
