For the third year in a row, PCL donates to food assistance programs nationwide to help with Thanksgiving needs.

PCL Construction donates $145,000 to help stock food pantries throughout America and purchase much needed food for the holidays as hunger continues to affect our communities. The current state of the economy indicated that one out of six Americans live in food-insecure households. PCL Construction recognized this growing trend and enacted a U.S. Food Bank Initiative in 2009, which enables the company’s 14 operating locations to donate $10,000 each year to a local food bank of their choice.

“During this time of year when many of us begin planning for festive meals with family and friends, [PCL was] kind enough to think of our neighbors who are struggling. Your support makes such a huge difference in hunger relief,” said Dave Kerpcho, President/CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.

As part of PCL’s nationwide Food Bank Initiative, 14 PCL district locations provided food bank donations, including Anchorage, Atlanta, Bakersfield, Charlotte, Denver, Honolulu, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Orlando, Phoenix, San Diego, Seattle, and Vail. PCL’s U.S. Head Office located in Denver also donated $5,000 to help a local food bank that had a lower-than-average turkey supply. In addition to $145,000 donated to U.S. food banks this year, several PCL employees are also volunteering their time and conducting additional food drives.

“Over the past few years, the economic downturn has created a greater need at food banks, and nearly 50 million Americans lived in households without enough food last year alone,” said Peter Beaupré, president and COO for PCL’s U.S. operations. “Three years ago, we saw the importance of supporting food banks, and the need continues to grow in the communities where we live and work.”

PCL Construction has donated a total of $438,000 over the last three years to food banks across the U.S., providing approximately 1.3 million meals to those in need.
