The article on the Agenda 21 covers a global plan of action to be taken in every area in which human impacts on the environment. Agenda 21, the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, and the Statement of Principles for the Sustainable Management of Forests were adopted by over 178 Governments at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in June 1992. The review provides a discussion of China's White Paper on Agenda 21 and examines the problem of sustaining biological diversity in a Prefecture in Yunnan. It also covers the important role of agrometeorologists within this framework. The review also provides a summary of four subsequent international conventions covering topics of sustainable agriculture including the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Convention on Biological Diversity and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification and the World Food Summit Plan of Action.

The review on Hantavirus covers this life-threatening disease spread to humans especially by mice. While the virus does not make the animal sick, it is a serious and oftentimes fatal infection of humans which is called Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome or hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome. The review provides an overview of the mechanisms of the disease in humans including increased permeability in microvascular beds in the kidneys and the lungs, increased permeability of human endothelial cells and capillary leakage. It also covers the difficulties with treating this disease of which more than half of people who have this disease in their lungs die. It suggests that hantavirus can interfere with the activation of antiviral innate immune responses in patients and inhibit the antiviral effects of all interferons (IFNs).

Topoisomerases are isomerase enzymes that regulate the overwinding or underwinding of DNA.
