Sutton and East Surrey (SESW) have completed an IT strategic review of the benefits delivered by their implementation of Microsoft Dynamics NAV in 2003 by TVision Technology. The review has also highlighted that Dynamics NAV will be able to deliver SESW's current needs for further integration across the business and greater use of mobile technology.

Eight years after its initial implementation of Microsoft Dynamics NAV in 2003, Sutton and East Surrey Water plc have just completed an IT strategic review of the benefits it has delivered and how it can now be taken forward to provide even greater return on the original investment.

Sutton and East Surrey Water plc (SESW) originally implemented Dynamics NAV in 2003 as a replacement for their ageing accounts system and over the intervening years, SESW has developed it into a platform that is used across the whole enterprise and as far more than just a financials package. The original implementation was carried out by TVision Technology of Walton-on-Thames who have continued to provide support and maintenance to SESW.

The 2011 strategic review looked at the effectiveness of Dynamics NAV in fulfilling its initial brief but also went much further focusing on how NAV could be used to provide greater systems integration across the business and how best to utilise mobile technology in supporting in-field workers.

The review concluded that not only was Dynamics NAV fit for purpose, it also has the potential to support the organisation's improved integration and mobile technology plans. SESW had thought that further costly software solutions might be needed to meet both of these two new objectives and were delighted to find that they already had the solution in house. Not only did this mean a significant saving in costs but also that staff training resources will be minimised as staff are already familiar with the NAV interface and will simply need to be brought up to speed on the enhanced functionality.

“TVision have demonstrated their ability to understand SESW’s business and develop the solution to fit our business needs. We would like to continue developing this established business relationship,” Michael Cock, IT Manager SESW

As well as delivering core accounts the system now supports processes in job control (sending engineers out on tasks that range from installing a new meter to fixing a burst pipe) and stores management, including gaining efficiencies in the warehouse through the introduction of bar-code readers.

“Too many UK companies are guilty of installing a system then neglecting it until it becomes a frustration,” Richard Thompson, MD, TVision Technology. “This audit proves that sensible, on-going investment extends the life of ERP solutions and provides a far better return on investment.”
