The article on Imprinting which covers the inheritance process in which genes are expressed in a parent-of-origin-specific manner. Effects of differential imprinting are important when studying manifestation of deleterious genes, and these effects do also have important evolutionary implications. It is shown here that molecular imprinting may mimic observations that are often construed to be due to heterosis and/or inbreeding depression. Such differences are synonymous with maternal effects if effects of sex linkage and genomic imprinting are negligible. As an example, the article presents a study where transfer of embryos to paternal breed recipients partitioned effects occurred at or before fertilization from post-fertilization effects for growth and carcass traits in pigs. It also covers parental imprinting of an allele that posttranscriptionally regulates the accumulation of 10-kDa zein in the maize endosperm. The imprinted allele is dominant when transmitted through the female but recessive when transmitted through the male.

The review on the genus Triops covers this crustacean genus with a fossil record that reaches back to the Carboniferous, 300 million years ago. The article expands on the preference of these Crustaceans for aridity providing examples from the Lodeve basin and increasing abundance from the base of the upper red formations overlying the Rabejac conglomerate which reflects increasing aridity during sedimentation. It also covers genetic surveys which revealed a general trend of low differentiation of mitochondrial genes and, hence, low mitochondrial genetic variability in the genus Triops. Results of another study indicate the presence of concerted evolution at the population level among Italian populations, with the major amount of genetic variability found outside the subrepeat region. Another study explored the phylogeny of the genus by comparing with sequence data of Triops longicaudatus, Triops granarius, Triops cancriformis and Triops australiensis. In spite of the similarity in fundamental morphological characteristics among Triops species, mtDNA sequences of Triops showed marked differences among the phylogenetic species.

The article on Kumquat at covers the fruits of these small trees which are native to south Asia and the Asia-Pacific. In comparison to other genetically related citrus species Kumquat is highly resistant to frost. Two species of Kumquat are widely cultivated in China, oval kumquat Citrus margarita, syn. Fortunella margarita, and round kumquat Citrus japonica, syn. Fortunella japonica. The article focuses on grafting of Kumquat as a scion on "Ziyang xiangcheng" rootstocks. Results show that the scion plants had early-bearing period and high productivity with bigger fruits on this rootstock. The bitter taste plays one of the most important roles on the acceptability of kumquat juice and its major bitter phytosubstance is limonin. This review includes effects of heat treatment on Kumquat juice which resulted in significant differences on some of its physical or chemical properties. Another study covers the wide range of volatile phytosubstances in Kumquat which can be identified by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. In one study a total of 91 constituents were identified.
