New York, NY (PRWEB) November 30, 2011
Municipal Credit Union (MCU) today announced three charitable initiatives for the upcoming holiday season. MCU will support the City Harvest Food Drive, the Salvation Army “Toys for Tots” toy collection drive, and the New York Cares Coat Drive. The initiatives are part of MCU’s corporate commitment of giving back to the communities in which it serves.
MCU members as well as community members are encouraged to donate canned food for the City Harvest Food Drive, unwrapped toys for the Toys for Tots drive, and gently worn coats for the New York Cares Coat Drive. MCU will be accepting toy donations through December 16th, coat donations through December 29th, and food donations through January 6, 2012, at all of its branches as well as at its corporate headquarters.
“Our goal is simple: to help those in our communities who are in need,” said MCU Chairman of the Board Mark S. Brantley, Esq. “We strive to adhere to the Credit Union philosophy of ‘people helping people,’ and the opportunity to help people in our community through charitable efforts just one of the key ways we can put this philosophy into action. We are confident that our membership, and the New York community as a whole, will join us this holiday season to give back to those in need.”
MCU President/CEO Kam Wong echoed the significance of giving back to the community during this holiday season. “City Harvest, the Salvation Army, and New York Cares are three worthy and noble causes that we are proud to align ourselves with in our efforts to help the less fortunate in the communities that we serve. We are honored to help these charities provide food, clothes, and toys to members of our community who are in need of assistance during the holidays,” said Wong.
In 2010, MCU and its members supported these three initiatives, collecting over 600 pounds of food, 150 toys, and 50 coats for the less fortunate in the New York City area. MCU hopes that this year’s collection totals greatly top last year’s numbers, especially with the increasing amount of economic hardship hitting the five boroughs and surrounding communities.
