SmartlyU, a cutting-edge communication and leadership company focused on educational programs for 1st-12th grade children, is announcing the formation and appointment of five members to its corporate Advisory Board today. The board will provide perspective and counsel to the executive team in the areas of subject matter expertise and business development.

Aleta Hays, a faculty member in the Drama Department at Stanford University and SmartlyU board member, will guide the continued infusion of drama into SmartlyU programs as a core tenant of the program. "Drama is a wonderful way to help children develop communication and leadership skills; it helps put a structure around how kids naturally express themselves.”

Bill Overton, Principal of Ohlone School in Palo Alto and SmartlyU board member, will utilize his nearly three decades experience in the education system to help SmartlyU members. “We are finding more and more how necessary it is to be skilled at social emotional interactions and SmartlyU offers children a resource to learn these essential skills.”

Kevin Stone, CEO of EdCaliber, will bring his twenty plus years of high tech, start-up, and education experience to help SmartlyU scale to the next level. "As conceptual thinking and communication skills become ever more important, programs like SmartlyU are critical to help our students succeed and remain competitive in today's global economy.”

The new Advisory Board includes distinguished leaders and mentors in education and business. With their expertise, SmartlyU is excited to scale up its year-round programs, which provide a tailored, age-appropriate curriculum for children as they develop year-over-year.

About the Advisory Board Members

Tania Gil | School Counselor, Keys School, Palo Alto
Tania has been in the education field for over 14 years and teaches social emotional development programs at Key's School. Keys' educational philosophy is centered on a holistic concept of child development. Tania hold's a B.A. in Psychology from Iberoamerican University, Mexico and an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from the Mexican Association of Psychoanalytic Therapy.

Aleta Hays | Faculty Member, Drama Department Stanford University
Aleta Hayes is a contemporary dancer, choreographer, performer, and teacher at Stanford University. Before her appointment at Stanford, Ms. Hayes taught for eight years at Princeton University in the Program in Theater and Dance, Wesleyan University, Swarthmore College, and Rutgers University. Ms. Hayes holds an M.F.A. in Dance and Choreography from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and a B.A., with Departmental Honors, in Drama, Dance, and the Visual Arts from Stanford University.

Bill Overton| Principal, Ohlone Elementary School
William Overton is the Principal of the renowned Ohlone School in Palo Alto, CA. Bill Overton has taught at Ohlone for over 27 years and currently holds the distinguished role of School Principal. Ohlone adopted an “open education” approach in 1976 and has gained wide recognition as an innovative school. Since it's inception social-emotional learning (SEL) has been an integral part of the curriculum.

Kevin Stone | CEO, EdCaliber
Kevin is the CEO of EdCaliber, a company that provides online planning, curriculum management, and assessment tools for teachers and administrators to help their students master grade-level standards and learn 21st century skills. Prior to EdCaliber, Kevin was a co-founder of BeVocal, a customer care software as a service company, which sold to Nuance Communications. From 2003 to 2007, Kevin was involved with KIPP San Francisco Bay Academy where he was President of the KIPP San Francisco Bay Academy School Board from 2003 to 2005 and a School Board Member from 2005 to 2007.

Dave Westin | President of the Board, Washington Unified School District
Dave Westin is the President of the Board at Washington Unified School District, Sacramento, CA. During his Presidency, WUSD has been the highest performing school district in the State of California. Dave is also the SVP and General Manager of Sponsor Pay.
