2011 Insurance Conference helps drive innovative ideas and knowledge in the accounting community

Blackman Kallick recently hosted its second annual Insurance Conference to facilitate the exchange of educational information and ideas among insurance professionals. Blackman Kallick began hosting the event in 2010, helping clients, colleagues and the greater insurance community stay informed and operate more effectively in an increasingly challenging business environment.

“I attended the conference before when they were sponsored by the Illinois CPA society and one of the benefits I like about it is that it helps make sure that I am up to speed on things that are happening in the industry. I don’t always have time to read through all of the publications and look at everything like that and it’s good to have a forum where you can be sure that you have caught up with the latest in trends, or the developments and the issues that are facing the industry,” said Michael Rybak, CFO of Hiscox Insurance Company Inc.

Insurance professionals were invited to engage with industry leaders to learn about and discuss current and emerging trends on matters such as reinsurance, captives, and actuaries in the auditing process. The intensive one-day immersion event was also filled with sessions on NAIC updates, the impact of the Affordable Care Act on health plans, recruiting and retention in today’s marketplace, and an economic overview.

“The agenda was built to address the issues that insurance companies are facing. So it’s a good well rounded program that gives me the knowledge to help and go into discussion with my clients.” Daniel Murphy, CPA, Vice President of Corporate & Institutional Services at Northern Trust.

The Conference was additionally sponsored by AAM Insurance Investment Management, Attadale Partners, LLC, Locke Lord LLP and Pinnacle Actuarial Resources, Inc, and it brought together professionals from firms throughout the U.S.

Presentations were delivered by Blackman Kallick’s Insurance Group, the New York Property Insurance Underwriting Association, Butler Rubin Saltarelli & Boyd LLP, Reinsurance Association of America, Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP, M.R. Mead & Company Inc., Missouri Department of Insurance, Pinnacle Actuarial Resources, Inc., The Jacobson Group, AAM Insurance Investment Management, StoneRiver, and Locke Lord LLP.

Rybak went on to add, “This provides a good opportunity to combine the educational aspects as well as the networking aspects and have a good program that provides a lot of compliment.”
