The information came from a recent United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) factsheet that recommends acoustic noise levels in a laboratory not exceed 55 dbA, typically the maximum noise level for normal conversation.
OSHA enforces regulations to restrict noise levels that permanently affect hearing loss. They cite laboratories as “a growing concern”. Noise levels in many laboratories are now at levels that affect safety and health.
