APPNATION (http://www.appnationconference.com/appnation3/), the leading executive conference and exposition focused on the burgeoning consumer applications economy, today released “How Big Is the US App Economy? Estimates and Forecasts 2011 – 2015”, a new report on the growth of the US app economy and the “app-enabled life” of US consumers who depend daily on the content and functionality of apps to ensure the efficiency, awareness and success of their life activities. The new report is timed to coincide with APPNATION III, the international executive-level conference and dynamic, cutting-edge expo that will take place November 30 – December 1, 2011 at The Concourse at the San Francisco Design Center. APPNATION III will feature companies from across the apps value chain and will focus on social and mobile apps across all devices and platforms including PCs, smartphones, tablets, Internet-enabled televisions, portable games, peripherals and a range of other current and emerging connected devices.

“The commercialization of apps created for smartphones, tablets, eReaders, iPod Touch and other app-capable devices including apps that live within Facebook and Internet-enabled TV, has given rise to the ballooning growth of the app economy,” stated Drew Ianni, Founder and Chairman of APPNATION. “Our new report explores and analyzes the app economy through two specific devices – smartphones and tablets – while also analyzing the virtual app economy within Facebook, as well as in-app advertising, app download revenues and app-enabled commerce including virtual goods.”

Key findings from the report include:

  •     The size of the US app economy will grow from $20 billion USD in 2011 to nearly $76 billion USD by 2015
  •     Smartphone ownership in the US will grow from 90M in 2011 to 180M by 2015, and tablet ownership will grow from 24M in 2011 to 84M in 2015
  •     US consumers spend significant time every day accessing the internet: one hour on smartphones, two-thirds via apps, and one and a quarter hours on tablets
  •     25 billion US app downloads in 2011 growing to 183 billion downloads by 2015 (Source: IDG)

APPNATION kicks off with a keynote presentation by Facebook’s Head of Developer Relations Doug Purdy on day one, and Walmart’s SVP, Mobile and Digital, Gibu Thomas on day two. Kara Swisher from All Things D will interview Gary Morgenthaler, partner at Morgenthaler Ventures and Paul Ricci, CEO at Nuance Communications, a seven-billion dollar publicly traded company, as they discuss how artificial intelligence systems like Siri and voice recognition software like Nuance will usher in a new generation of applications, and how these technologies will impact mobile devices across platforms in the keynote session titled, “Why Artificial Intelligence and Voice-Enabled Apps Will Change Man-Machine Interaction Forever”. Additional keynote interviews with Andy Miller, General Partner at Highland Capital Partners, and Brandon Watson, Senior Director of Developer Experience at Microsoft Windows Phone are also planned.

APPNATION will also showcase mobile app companies of all sizes to give developers an opportunity to learn how to further monetize their content, products, and services, and to offer them a unique and affordable opportunity to interact with industry luminaries, investors, advertising agencies, media companies, the technology press and peers.
