Element Mobile to Help Gather Donations for Cell Phones for Soldiers

Cell phones are recycled for money to purchase pre-paid phone cards for troops to call home.

We feel strongly about the need for our troops to be able to call home to talk to their loved ones," said Jerry Wilke, chief operating officer of Element Mobile.

Element Mobile is giving residents in Central Wisconsin a chance to support America’s service men and women by offering an easy way to donate to the Cell Phones for Soldiers program.

The idea to be involved in Cell Phones for Soldiers came from a customer, after he went to his local Element Mobile store and asked if he could donate $200 worth of minutes to the program. Element Mobile decided to match his contribution and expand the donation program across its service area.

From Nov. 23 to the end of the year, Element Mobile will collect devices at all retail store locations, which are listed at http://elementmobile.com/why/storelocator. Anyone can donate a mobile phone to the program.

Element Mobile decided to bring the Cell Phones for Soldiers program to Central Wisconsin because it’s important that troops can call home to talk to their families during the holiday season, said Jerry Wilke, chief operating officer of Element Mobile.

“Given that Element Mobile is in the communication business, we feel strongly about the need for our troops to be able to call home to talk to their loved ones,” he said. “We’re glad to help support this program which assists the service men and women from our Central Wisconsin market area, as well as soldiers from all across America.”

Cell phones collected for the program are sold to an electronics recycler – generating money to buy pre-paid phone cards for soldiers. According to the program, Cell Phone for Soldiers has raised more than $7 million and provided more than 114 million minutes of talk time since 2004. Each week they mail approximately 12,000 calling cards.
