Liquid Church Is Wrapping 1,700 Brand New Toys and Coats For Families In Need This Christmas

What’s more meaningful to me than the thousands of dollars being spent on the families is the thousands of volunteer hours being poured into the children and their parents that are coming," said Tim Lucas, Lead Pastor at Liquid Church

In case 1,700 brand new toys, gifts, and coats costing over $45,000 don’t bring joy to a child and their family this Christmas, 2,100 eggs, 41 pounds of bacon and over 650 volunteers are being added for good measure. Over 400 children of economically disadvantaged families will find a new present under the tree on Christmas morning through a program called Operation Christmas Angel run by Liquid Church of New Jersey with 15 local social service organizations.

The December 10 event will host 200 families for a banquet, children’s programming and a free “shopping” experience for parents referred through social service organizations in Morristown, New Brunswick, and Nutley.

“We know that for many parents, Christmas can be a difficult day, and we're hoping to make it just a little easier those that could use some extra love at this time of year," said Tim Lucas, Lead Pastor of Liquid Church.

"Christmas marks the calendar with a source of joy for the Christian community and Operation Christmas Angel shares our love with children in each city, reflecting the joyful day it is meant to be for everyone who believes in Jesus.”

Operation Christmas Angel is an invitation only event for families identified by local social service agencies. While the children make Christmas crafts for their family, parents select brand new toys and a new winter coat for each of their children. The families also enjoy a professional family portrait and full brunch at one of four different seatings that day.

This is the second year Liquid Church has run Operation Christmas Angel. In addition to the 7,000 volunteer hours by 650 volunteers in 3 cities, many critical items are being procured in the planning for the event:

    2,100 eggs
    41 pounds of bacon
75 gallons of coffee and orange juice
1,700 brand new toys, gifts and coats
    800 yards of wrapping paper
    250 holiday photo frames
1,700 gift bags and gift tags

The program has been expanded to include a third city this year so that families in Morristown, New Brunswick, and Nutley will benefit from the program.

“What’s more meaningful to me than the thousands of dollars being spent on the families is the thousands of volunteer hours being poured into the children and their parents that are coming. Outreach is core part of who we are as a church and we hope the families we meet will feel it in their hearts,” Lucas said.
