DISH Systems, authorized DISH Network retailer, is hosting its second annual $1,000 scholarship essay contest on behalf of parent company, Connect Your Home, LLC. The DISH Systems Scholarship Program which began in 2011, is an effort to support college-bound high school seniors and non-graduating college students with their financial responsibilities at the higher education level. The 2012 essay scholarship winner is determined by a panel of Connect Your Home’s executive team, and the student whose essay is chosen will receive a $1,000 scholarship in his/her name.

This year, the scholarship program is offering five different prompts for students to choose from in order to best translate their ideas in a short 500 word essay. Each prompt relates to the internet and television industries in the following ways: the future of TV technology, how the internet has shaped broadcast journalism, TV programming quality, media predictions for 2012 presidential elections and a creative prompt on inventing a television series. Each essay that is submitted will be judged based on grammar and the effectiveness of communicating an idea in a short composition as it relate to the specific question.

“Each year we look forward to reading the hundreds of entries we receive from students across the country. It’s not only interesting to get their take on the television and internet service industries, but the scholarship program is also a great way for Connect Your Home to support the higher education initiatives of students nationwide,” said Michael Ryan Grier, vice president of marketing at Connect Your Home.

The 2011 essay scholarship recipient was a graduating high school senior from Kansas that applied the future of television technology with his International Baccalaureate curriculum. Last year, DISH Systems received over 600 entries for both college and high school students combined. DISH Systems is expecting to receive close to 1,000 entries this year from students across the country, who submit their ideas based on a reflection of the prompts provided.

Those who are interested in participating in the 2012 scholarship program can visit the DISH Systems website to learn about eligibility, rules and prompts for the essay. Each participant may only submit one essay for consideration at a minimum of 500 words in length by March 1, 2012. The Connect Your Home executive team will then determine the 2012 scholarship winner who will then be notified by April 1, 2012.
