A fresh look at healthcare art is emanating from GlowArtworks, a group of art professionals whose website launched in July to offer an alternative resource to interior designers, especially those involved in healthcare design projects.
"Our vision and passion is to use authentic, inspiring, life-affirming art to give comfort and strength, to captivate and engage viewers," says Ian Summers, a GlowArtworks founder. "Our galleries offer art that moves beyond generic, wallpaper-style images most people are used to seeing in public spaces."
Summers is a career coach to artists and a painter himself. He says he and the other founders studied the healthcare art market for two years before GlowArtworks.com became a reality.
“We feel that designers in this industry desire an easy-to-use source of high quality art to decorate the many new and remodeled healthcare facilities,” Summers says. “What’s currently being offered by most resources quickly becomes wallpaper.
“Our newsletter states, ‘Art is not science.’ We believe engaging art in healthcare and other environments is better for the viewer and better for the facility. The key is to offer a diverse, curated selection that allows designers to make appropriate choices for their clients. We carefully curate our collections to offer excellent art that adds unique and special qualities to a variety of spaces.”
GlowArtworks trusts their design clients to know what they want and to have an artistic sensibility of the experience they are offering to their customers, Summers says. New artists and new work are being added regularly. Plans for the near future call for guest curators to comb through the ever-growing GlowArtworks gallery, creating art suites held together by specific themes or applications.
GlowArtworks also offers trade discounts to those whose business it is to choose, recommend and purchase art. This includes designers in the healthcare, hospitality, commercial and residential fields, as well as art consultants of all types.
