Indigo Furniture, based in the picturesque town of Matlock in the Peak District, are famous for the care and attention they place on every part of the design process from designing to sourcing the very best materials to traditional manufacturing of every single piece. As the Riven Oak designs were to be their largest new oak furniture range ever launched, it was even more crucial to Indigo that they found the very finest wood to produce it with, along with a traditional way to manufacture it.
Indigo found the perfect wood from a small family run saw mill on the Baltic Coast while the manufacturing process was solved when they found a 1930’s ripsaw. After a long restoration process the vintage ripsaw was ready to use.
The defining feature of the ripsaw is that it leaves beautiful circular markings on the wood, something that Indigo loved about the process. The company unlike other wooden furniture manufacturers celebrate the hard work it takes to make a piece and leave the markings on the furniture choosing not to sand them out instead making them into a feature which distinguishes them from their competitors.
After much debate about what the collection should be called Indigo Furniture ran a competition where their customers were able to suggest a name. The winner was “Riven Oak” and the original collection, which included a bedside table, double wardrobe, bed and chest of drawers was presented to the public.
The collection immediately became a big hit with customers and Indigo were inundated with requests for more pieces to be available in the range. Happy to oblige their loyal customers the furniture company have now expanded the range to an impressive 29 pieces including everything from mirrors, a choice of 5 different style beds and a fantastic kitchen console unit.
The most famous piece in the expanded collection is without doubt the Riven Oak Cart Table. Originally available in the furniture companies iconic plank wood the table completely personifies Indigo Furniture’s philosophy of “be different”. The cart table has four wheels holding it up and is based on the design of carts that were used in the 19th and 20th centuries in factories across the country for transporting furniture, fabric and other necessary supplies needed in production.
The completely unique coffee table is the perfect addition to a design conscious home and makes a fantastic focal point in every single room. Other key features which set the table apart are the hand-forged iron castings on the corners of the unique table which are made by a father and son blacksmith team based in the same town. It is this type of dedication to quality that sets both Indigo Furniture and the Riven Oak furniture range apart from competitors and what has made the Indigo Furniture brand so well respected and loved.
As the range continues to grow in popularity we are sure that Indigo Furniture will be making more additions and announcements of additions to the already robust Riven Oak furniture collection.
